LBGT History at Michigan State University 2007 - 2008
The 2007-2008 academic year was our third year in 302 Student Services, and
saw the addition of a third full-time staff position, Assistant Director,
filled by Julica Hermann.
Student staff included graduate assistants Scott Weatherman and Jordan
Furrow, and undergraduate program assistant Michelle Nickerson.
Highlights
- Student Welcome and Resource Fair
- The academic year kicked off for LBGT-identified students with the
Fall Student Welcome and Statewide
Resource Fair hosted by the LBGT Resource Center. (The format for this
even will change next year.)
- National Coming Out Days
- National Coming Out Days is the first set of
major student-organized LBGT-focused events of the year.
- Transgender Day of Remembrance
- The 9th Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance was observed on campus
with several well-attended events, including a presentation of research
results by Dr. Brent Bilodeau, a showing of the The Gwen Araujo Story,
a march and a candlelight vigil.
- Pride Week
- Pride Week this year included Avenue Q at the
MSU Wharton Center and several major guest speakers.
- Lavender Reception
- This was the third year for the Lavender Reception:
LBGTA Graduates & Student Leaders Recognition Event,
held in the Union Gold Rooms.
