Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & Ally
Panel Discussion Program
The MSU LBGTA Panel Discussion Program is a diverse group of
lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender and ally students who are
trained to provide education in classrooms, campus units, student
organizations, residence halls, and community settings about
identities and issues relevant to the LBGTA community.
Panels provide awareness and education about the diverse
identities of LBGTA people. The format of the program typically
includes panelists providing an overview of their lives, "coming
out" processes and experiences, followed by Q&A. Panels may
also address special topic areas, such as the intersections of
race/ethnicity and LBGT identities. Discussion topics often
include: Family reactions, health issues, issues particularly
pertaining to students and campus safety.
The program promotes critical thinking through challenging
dialogue. A panel may also be the first opportunity the audience has
to ask honest questions in a safe environment.
